GRILLOS CANTORES VINEYARD
D.O. CACHAPOAL ANDES
This vineyard of 22 Ha. of Cabernet Sauvignon belongs to Clos de Fous since 2010. We have acquired it because we are sure that due to its soil and climate along with Maipo Alto, is the best terroir that Chile has for Cabernet Sauvignon.
This vineyard was planted in 1993, with an average density. Wine-growing and soil work has been done, managing to separate the best 8 hectares, from which 4 different wines are vinified. The division of these four micro terroirs is done according to the gravels percentage of the soil and the fertility of the clays found in the gravels. Our wine, Clos de Fous “Grillos Cantores” corresponds to the blend of this micro terroirs.
The climate of this vineyard is strongly Andean, that is to say, big thermal day – night oscillations due to the height of the Andes mountains. Cold nights are important and they allow the plants to rest during the night. The rainfall in the area is low, mainly during the winter and autumn, reaching an approximate total of 450 mm. per year.
The soils of this D.O. are special, and this is what motivated us to purchase this property. These soils consist of ancient alluvial gravels of the Cachapoal river, which are mixed by Calcareous textures that come from the Andes Mountain range. This mixture of gravels and lime gives firm and rounded tannins to wine, and the typical minerality given by these calcareous components.
